IATF favors removing face shield

Many members of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) are in favor of eliminating the use of the face shield, according to Malacañang.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed that the IATF is already talking about removing the face shield wear amid the drop in the COVID-19 case.

He said many in the IATF are saying that wearing the face shield should be stopped.

Dr. Edsel Salvaña added that it is still protection to wear a face shield as eye protection where the virus can penetrate.

“Iyong face shield kasi hindi lang siya additional for masking kasi hindi ba nagdo-double masking iyong iba? Iyong important diyan is the eye protection. Alam din kasi natin na puwedeng pumasok ang COVID through your eyes and even iyong tears natin kung may COVID kayo puwedeng magkaroon ng COVID,” said Salvaña.

But Salvaña also agreed with Roque that since the case of COVID-19 is declining, wearing a face shield outside can be recommendatory.

“But I agree with Spox na if the risk is going down, we can think about decreasing, well, iyong sa outdoor naging recommendatory na lang but for indoors siguro we have to make sure everyone who is vaccinated muna before we remove those face shields, baka hindi muna doon sa mga unvaccinated at we will continue to study this po,” said Salvaña.
