On Monday, such measures were announced by Chief Executive Carrie Lam, who was showered with criticism then from her countrymen for long-standing restrictions to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The flight ban will be lifted starting April 1, while the previous 14 days hotel quarantine for arriving foreigners will be extended to only seven days if the result is negative for COVID-19.

After the Easter holidays, the schools’ face-to-face classes will continue on April 19. At the same time, public venues-including sports facilities-will open on April 21.

Hong Kong has closed its border since 2020, and only a few flights are allowed for pass-through trips to such Chinese territory.

Even their citizens have made it difficult to return if they come from another country.

In the past month, the resurgence of COVID-19 cases has become a problem in Hong Kong due to the more contagious Omicron variant.
