“Para sa akin si Julius na lang ang tatanungin niyo. Kasi ako ready naman ako,” said Diaz.

Hidilyn’s boyfriend Naranjo is a Filipino-Japanese weightlifter whom she met at the competition in Turkmenistan in 2017.

It will be recalled that in the 2019 interview with “Magandang Buhay,” a few years before she competed in the Tokyo Olympics, Diaz and Naranjo shared their plan after the 2021 Olympics.

Diaz admits that she wants to settle down and have a child. Other than that, she also wants to finish her studies.

” ‘Yun ang gusto ko after na, sana makuha ko, kini-claim ko na makuha ang gold sa Olympics. After that magkakaroon ng baby, mag-settle. Then kailangan ko rin makapagtapos (ng pag-aaral),” said Diaz.

“Masyado kasi akong focused. Alam niya na ang priority ko ngayon ay weightlifting talaga. So suwerte ako na nandiyan siya sumusuporta,” said Diaz then.

According to Diaz, although there are misunderstandings because they both have strong personalities, they get along well when it comes to weightlifting training.

“Siya ginagawa niya ng maayos ang trabaho niya. Ako gusto ko mag-perform ng maayos. So nagki-click pagdating sa training,” she said.

Naranjo promised then, no matter what happens, he will always be there for Diaz.

“I promise to continue to support you even after Tokyo 2020 if you decide to continue,” said Hidilyn’s boyfriend.

Julius Irvin Hikaru T. Naranjo is a Guamanian weightlifter, coach, and filmmaker. He competed for Guam in the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and coached Filipino Olympic weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.
