Hero dogs save family from robbery in Masbate City

Two dogs became heroes after they prevented a robbery at their family’s house in Masbate City on January 27.

According to  Trisha Marie Buri, their dogs Roscoe and Smile alerted them when a man entered their house past midnight.

“Around 1 a.m., tumatahol at ‘di po mapakali si Smile. Patingin-tingin po siya sa akin at sa pinto ng kwarto. May narinig po ako na footstep at narinig ko na may binubuksang zipper ng bag sa baba at naisip ko agad ang laptop ni papa, kaya sumigaw agad ako,” she said.

(Around 1 am, Smile was barking and restless. He was looking at me and our room’s door. Then I heard a footstep and a bag’s zipper being opened downstairs. I quickly thought it was papa’s laptop, so I immediately shouted.)

Buri said her parents responded and checked the first floor of their house. Everything seemed fine. Their family decided to go back upstairs, but Roscoe and Smile started barking.

“So nag-decide kami na umakyat na lang ulit sa taas pero si Smile, ayaw tumigil kakatahol. Si Roscoe naman tahol nang tahol kahit inaaya na ni papa na umakyat sa taas,” she said.

(So we decided just to go up again, but Smile didn’t want to stop barking. On the other hand, Roscoe was barking even though papa invited him to go upstairs.)

“Ayaw niyang umalis sa kusina kaya naiwan si papa, tapos nakita niya na nakaawang ‘yung panel ng door ng cabinet,” Buri went on to say.

(He didn’t want to leave, so Papa was left there. Then he saw the cabinet’s panel door was slightly opened.)

When they opened it, they saw a man hiding, and they started shouting. Then, they asked for help from the barangay and their neighbors.

They discovered the thief went first to their neighbor’s house and stole a cellphone and sunglasses.

The family is proud of their hero dogs. Buri said their pets are the reason for their safety.
