In Guagua, Pampanga, some areas have been subjected to granular lockdown following the spike of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.
Mayor Dante Torres declared granular lockdown in a sitio in Brgy San Pedro, in 12 houses in a housing community in Lambac, and a ward in San Juan Nepomuceno.
“Napakahirap. Masakit no. Kasi kailangan balansehin mo ‘yung negosyo, at saka ‘yung health pero mas importante sa akin ‘yung health,” he said.
According to the provincial health office on Wednesday, 1,162 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Guagua, of which 285 are active cases while 793 have been cured.
The death toll in the town due to COVID-19 hit 84.
For the mayor, a regular and free antigen test every Tuesday and Thursday is a big help to everyone who has close contact with those who test positive for COVID-19. But Torres warned the public that if at least the COVID-19 case in the town is reduced, he will be forced to tighten again.
“Hanggang katapusan pataas pa rin ang COVID natin, mag-aano ako sa provincial government na bababa kami sa pinakamahigpit,” he said.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure by the local government, the entire public market of the town is closed every Monday. The LGU also aims to disinfect the market today.
It started on June 7 and will last for 3 months.
This is the local government’s visible way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the area, especially since many people go to the town market.
The people of Guagua, Pampanga, have also been notified to temporarily go to the market in the nearby towns every Monday to August.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jun Tetangco announced that the annual Apung Iru Fluvial Festival in Apalit town, Pampanga, has been canceled again.
The said celebration was attended by thousands of devotees of Apung Iru, who are believed to be miraculous.
It is processioned on the river in thanksgiving for the year-long blessing of water, and there is a parade on the road in honor of him.
