Grandmother who refused to sell her carabao shot in Davao del Sur

A grandmother was injured after she was allegedly shot by an unidentified assailant last Friday night in Purok 10, Barangay Poblacion, Magsaysay town, Davao del Sur.

According to the police report, Tedora Chavez went to the river to get her carabao which was released for a while.

An unidentified man allegedly approached the grandmother and asked if she was selling the carabao.

But the victim replied that she was not selling it, and the suspect suddenly shot the victim.

The culprit immediately fled while the victim was taken to the Davao del Sur Provincial Hospital.

She sustained two gunshot wounds to the left side of his abdomen and is now recovering in hospital.

Police are currently pursuing the perpetrator of the crime. In addition, the motive behind the shooting is also being investigated.

The carabao is a domestic swamp-type water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) native to the Philippines. Carabaos were introduced to Guam from the Spanish Philippines in the 17th century.

They have acquired great cultural significance to native Chamorro and are considered the unofficial national animal of Guam. In Malaysia, carabaos (known as kerbau in Malay) are the official animal of the state of Negeri Sembilan.

The average selling price for an adult buffalo in our area of the Philippines is P25,000-P30,000.

Meanwhile, authorities seized more than P7 million worth of shabu in a buy-bust operation in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, Sunday afternoon.

Two men were caught in the buy-bust in Purok Tambis, Barangay Cagangohan, after authorities bought shabu.

It is said that up to half a kilo of illegal drugs was confiscated from them, costing P7,650,000.

An operation was also conducted in Sitio Patulangon, Barangay Zone 1, in Sta. Cruz to “MayMay” who works at the provincial capitol of Davao del Sur.

He was allegedly caught with three packages containing only shabu worth P210,000.

The suspects have already been charged with violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
