Police point out Avila as the alleged mastermind of the “sangla-tira” modus. She pretends to be a broker looking for a mortgagee for the title of residential property at a low cost.

It is here that the plaintiffs against the suspect have flocked, and the authorities expect that this will increase once the case is made public.

According to Poblete, most of the suspect’s victims were “unschooled,” such as seamstresses, traders, housewives, and carpenters.

One of the victims was Violeta Limroa, 62, who and her husband was collecting goods.

They allegedly gave the suspect the P80,000 they had saved up over 10 years in exchange for a promise that they would have a house.

Niloko niya ako, binigay ko sa kaniya ‘yung P80,000,” said Limroa, whose husband was blind.

‘Yun pala scammer siya,” she added.

The CIDG presented evidence such as documented papers from the National Housing Authority and others.

Estafa and other forms of swindling will be filed against the grandmother, who regrets his actions.
