Freddie Roach doesn’t want Pacquiao to fight in the ring anymore

Trainer Freddie Roach does not want Manny Pacquiao to fight in the ring again.

According to Roach, who guided Pacquaio to become the eight-division champion, the so-called Pambansang Kamao has nothing to prove.

“I think he’s finished [with boxing]. I don’t think he has anything more to prove. He’s done everything he can, I feel. He doesn’t owe anything to anybody. If he does want to come back and fight again, I hope he picks me as his trainer,” Freddie Roach told boxingscene.com.

“He likes going to different cities. He brings his family and his wife with him. He likes to travel. He’s doing something he enjoys. His wife doesn’t want him to fight anymore, from what I hear. If he calls me and asks me, I’ll tell him, ‘You don’t need to prove nothing to anybody in the world,’” said the veteran trainer.

Pacquiao, 43, retired last year after losing to Yordenis Ugas. This coincided with his preparation to run for president of the Philippines.

According to Roach, apart from the fact that Pacquiao doesn’t have to prove anything in boxing, the wife of Filipino boxing legend Jinkee also doesn’t want him to fight again.

“If he’s willing to come back, I’d like to help him and wish him the best of luck. But his wife and everyone doesn’t want him to come back,” Freddie Roach said.

“There’s a lot more people that feel he doesn’t need to come back. What does he have to prove? He’s already been there,” he added.

Upon his retirement, Pacquiao holds a boxing record of 62-8-2 with 39 knockouts as a professional fighter.

Pacquiao will return to the ring and wear gloves to fight in an exhibition match that will allegedly take place this coming December.

Pacquiao will face  YouTuber DK Yoo in the said exhibition match. But no other details have been released yet.

In an Instagram post, Yoo announced Thursday that their fight with the former senator would take place on December 10.

The two are set to sign the contract for the exhibition fight on July 20.
