Foreigner, jeepney driver hit each other with pipe in Davao City

A heated road quarrel between a foreigner driver and a Filipino jeepney driver in Davao City ended in a pipe crash.

RGil Relator reported on GMA Regional TV News that the incident happened on Thursday afternoon on Ponciano Street.

In the video taken by a netizen, it can be seen that the foreigner kicked the door of the jeepney. He also slightly hit the Filipino driver with the pipe he was holding.

But during the police investigation, it appears that the foreigner allegedly grabbed the pipe from the jeepney driver.

According to the report, Gumobao nearly collided with Lochlin’s vehicle while traversing, culminating in a heated argument between the two drivers.

The foreigner collided with the PUJ driver’s side mirror during their fight. The latter eventually got an iron pipe and smashed the foreign national in the face. Lochlin, on the other hand, was able to snare the iron pipe and fight his way back to Gumobao.

Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection who were there at the time of the occurrence calmed the situation to prevent further injury to both parties and requested police intervention.

Both parties were invited to the police station with their witnesses, agreeing to settle or arbitrate their case at the barangay.

It was found out from an informant that the foreigner had nearly collided with a taxi before he fought with the jeepney driver.

In a phone interview with SunStar Davao, DCPO Director Alberto Lupaz said that no cases had been filed as a result of the event.

The event, according to Lupaz, resulted in no significant injuries.

With this, he encouraged motorists to remain calm when involved in a traffic collision.

“Hilabi na init ang panahon, usually init pud ang ulo sa tao. Dapat gyud ang mga driver, mag-maintain sila og composure (Especially with the hot weather, most people are also hot headed. Drivers should maintain their composure),” the DCPO official said.
