Alleged fake dentist arrested in Cavite entrapment

A woman who was allegedly a fake dentist was arrested in an entrapment operation in Silang town, Cavite on Friday.

The entrapment operation was launched after the Philippine Dental Association received a complaint against the suspect, who allegedly offered to attach braces on social media.

The suspect was arrested when a brace was attached to an asset who pretended to be a patient.

Based on PDA records from the Professional Regulation Commission, there is no record proving that the suspect is a registered dentist.

According to Dr. Ronnie Nunez, chairman of the PDA’s anti-illegal practice of dentistry, the arrest stemmed from the complaint of the suspect’s patient.

According to the patient’s complaint, she allegedly attached a brace, but the suspect always forced the patient to return.

The suspect allegedly insulted the victim so he decided to report it to the PDA.

The PDA conducted surveillance until it was discovered that the dentist was fake.

“Ang komite kasi namin may coordinators, may coaches, may in charge sa entrapment at local governments at may naka-in charge ako sa DTI. ‘Yung aking chairman ng entrapment. Kasi may mga nagcomplain na sa chat group namin. Of course vineverify namin, sinusurvey namin,” said Nuñez.

The suspect allegedly started in 2016 with all transactions being done online on the Facebook page “Perfect Smile Fashion Braces.”

The suspect allegedly learned to install a brace with the help of friends and training.

Nuñez stressed that only licensed dentists can train, and only those who practice it are licensed, dentists.

The suspect will be charged with violating the Philippine Dental Act of 2007.
