Face shield still mandatory indoor and outdoor – Palace

Malacañang revoked its earlier statement and said that wearing face shields indoors and outdoors is still mandatory.

Via Twitter, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced last night that President Rodrigo Duterte followed the advice of health experts because of the Delta variant or the more contagious variant of COVID-19 first seen in India.

“Acting on the advice of health experts, and in view of the Delta variant, PRRD declares that the wearing of face shields, both indoor and outdoor, is still mandatory, “ Roque said in a tweet.

Dra. Cynthia Saloma of the Philippine Genome Center of UP Manila also confirmed that the Delta variant is highly contagious, making it mandatory to wear a face shield even outside the building or home.

“Nakakabahala po kasi, kasi alam natin na iyong Alpha variant is about 60% more transmissible. Pero on top of that po, itong Delta variant, mas 60% more transmissible po siya kaysa doon sa Alpha variant,” said Saloma.

Elders said there was confusion about wearing a face shield after Roque confirmed what Duterte said to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto and Sen. Joel Villanueva that he just wants to wear the face shield inside the hospital.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles then said the wearing of face shield is still required.

“Face shields are still required,” he pointed out.

The Philippines has recorded 4 new cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant, the “variant of concern” first seen in India.

As a result, the total number of Filipinos infected with the Delta variant has reached 17.

According to the Department of Health, 3 out of 4 are crew members of MV Eastern Hope who are now docked in South Korea.

Health Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire insisted that there is no evidence that the Delta variant is more lethal.

But some studies show it is highly contagious.

According to Vergeire, some vaccines have been shown to protect against the Delta variant, particularly those of Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

But even the Sinovac and Sputnik V vaccines, the data are also good, based on the studies.
