Exercising outside banned in Metro Manila

Those who want to exercise will no longer be allowed to leave their homes while the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is still in place in Metro Manila.

According to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos, Metro Manila mayors have been strict.

It may be recalled that Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that although it is an ECQ, individual exercises such as jogging and biking will be allowed if only in the vicinity of one’s own barangay.

“Nagpasa kami ng resolusyon ngayong hapon na ultimo paglabas ng bahay, maski mag-exercise ay bawal na po sapagkat importante for the next 2 weeks ay mapangalaagaan ang ating mga taga Metro Manila,” said Abalos.

Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte warned that those who have not been vaccinated should not go out.

But he clarified this is just advice from him.

“Iyong mga elderly, iyong mga matatanda na, bedridden, or wheelchair bound, huwag na muna sila lumabas kung walang bakuna at tiyaka iyong mga tao na walang bakuna. My suggestion is do not go out our the house unless there is a facility where you can go to have your vaccines. Iyan ang ano ko, payo ko. Iyang payo na iyan, pagkakaintindi nitong mga ulol na ito, iniba na agad ang storya, blaming the national government,” said Duterte.

He also defended the government’s order to still wear a face shield in addition to the face mask.

This is although some groups are questioning its still use in the country.

“Problem is we really do not know how the infection would enter the body. And as far as I know pumapasok iyan sa ilong, the air that you breathe and iyong sa mata kapag nahawaan ng COVID, then you rub your eyes then papasok iyogn COVID. At least yung may mask di mo magalaw ang mata mo, itong may plastic shield itong mask is really very important, the most basic thing in fighting infection,” said Duterte.
