According to a report, the DFA did not elaborate, but it said that the Filipino domestic worker was allegedly murdered by his boss’s wife.

In the wake of the incident, the DFA summoned Kuwait’s ambassador to the Philippines to protest the apparent lack of protection for Filipino domestic helpers from their employers’ abuse.

“Ang patuloy na mga insidente ng karahasan at pang-aabuso sa mga domestic worker na Pilipina sa Kuwait ay paglabag sa diwa ng kasunduang nilagdaan noong Mayo 2018 na naghahangad na itaguyod at pangalagaan ang kanilang kapakanan,” the DFA said in its statement.

Security sources say that the Kuwaiti and his wife were taken into custody because their helper sustained bruises and wounds in her body.

According to security forces, the Kuwaiti born in 1971 and working for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) brought his 26-year-old helper to the hospital for treatment but died. Hospital staff reported the incident to the police because the victim had bruises and body wounds.

The Kuwaiti source told investigators that, when he returned home, he saw the Filipina in pathetic condition and just wanted to help. He did not know if her wife and the helper had quarreled. As a result, his wife was also detained at the Sulaibikhat Police Station for interrogation.
