Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Tuesday that President Rodrigo Duterte wanted Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to run for president in 2022.
“Sinabi niya na gusto niya i-endorso si Inday Sara pero kung ayaw talaga (The President did say he wanted to endorse Inday Sara, but if she won’t run), let us see who has the numbers: Senator Pacquiao, Mayor Isko (Moreno), former Senator Bongbong Marcos,” Roque said.
“Di nakaantay si Senator Pacquiao (Senator Pacquiao could not wait for endorsement),” he added.
When sought for clarification with Duterte’s earlier statement that he did not want Mayor Inday Sara to run for president, Roque said, “Sinabi niya, gusto n’ya ring tumakbo si Mayor Sara pero ayaw ni Mayor Sara (He said he wants Sara to run but she does not want to).”
Early this month, Mayor Sara Duterte has admitted that she is already thinking about running for president.
Duterte wants Inday Sara to run for president: Roque
“Pinag-iisipan, kasi a lot of people are asking me to reconsider my decision not to run for president, and a lot of people are demanding to talk to me about it… Binigyan ako ng HNP (Hugpong ng Pagbabago) governors until July to decide,” Sara Duterte said.
However, she insisted the Duterte-Duterte tandem will not happen in 2022 elections.
“It will never happen that merong Duterte-Dutere and then sinabi naman na ni PRD kung ano yung mga reasons niya kung bakit ayaw niya ako tumakbong president,” the mayor said.
Meanwhile, President Duterte threatened campaign against Sen. Manny Pacquiao in the upcoming 2022 election if the boxing champ fails to prove corruption in his administration.
“[Si] Pacquiao, salita nang salita na three times daw tayo mas corrupt [kumpara sa Aquino admin]. So I am challenging him, ituro mo ang opisina na corrupt at ako na ang bahala. Within one week may gawain ako,” said Duterte.
“[If] you fail to do that, I will campaign against you because you are not doing your duty. Do it because if not, I will tell the people: ‘Do not vote for Pacquiao because he is a liar.’”
