Duterte to ICC: ‘I’m ready to go to jail’

President Rodrigo Duterte said Wednesday night that he was ready to go to jail over the recent findings of the International Criminal Court’s Office of the Prosecutor there was a “basis to believe that crimes against humanity” were committed in his drug war campaign.

“Ba’t mo ako takutin na mag-preso? If it’s my destiny magpreso ako then magpreso ako,” Duterte said in a televised briefing, answering former Senator Antonio Trillanes’ statements on Twitter.

“Kung may ginawa kami, sige. Kung makulong, eh ‘di makulong,” he added.

Trillanes tweeted earlier that the time for reckoning was near for Duterte, “his cohorts and his enablers.”

“Duterte may try to ignore the jurisdiction of ICC over him, but deep inside, he knows that he cannot get away from this one,” Trillanes said.

In response to his critic, Duterte said Trillanes reminded him of “dog shit.”

“Trillanes alam mo pag nakita ko yung pangalan mo nakikita ko tae ng aso. Every time I look at you, you’re shit of a dog,” Duterte said.

A report released by the ICC said they were looking into “violations” such as extrajudicial killings (EJK) committed against suspected drug pushers and users since July 1, 2016.

“The Office is satisfied that information available provides a reasonable basis to believe that the crimes against humanity of murder (Article 7(1)(a)), torture (article 7(1)(f)) and the infliction of serious physical injury and mental harm as other inhumane Acts (article 7(1)(k)) were committed on the territory of the Philippines between at least 1 July 2016 and 16 March 2019, in connection to the WoD campaign launched throughout the country,” ICC said on its report.

Duterte slams ICC, Trillanes

Duterte also cursed at the ICC, saying that the court was not prepared for the situation.

“[G]inagawa ko na lahat, nagkakaso-kaso na nga ako diyan sa International Court of Justice [sic] na akala naman nitong ulol, isa din. Walang preparasyon, hindi nagbabasa ang mga gago,” he said.

Duterte also slammed Trillanes’ for allegedly linking him and his family to the illegal drug activities.

“Tapos sabi niya tuturo dito, drug lord dito, drug lord doon. Pati ‘yung anak ko na maliit, dalagita. Anong nangyari? Wala, ni isa. May napakulong ka ba Trillanes? Sino, sino napakulong mo? Nandiyan pa rin sila,” he said.
