Duterte urges public not to vote for Makabayan party-list groups

President Rodrigo Duterte urged voters not to vote for Makabayan party-list parties, which he described as “legal fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).”

Duterte named the party-list groups in his Tuesday Talk to the People as Kabataan, Anakpawis, Bayan Muna, ACT Teachers, and Gabriela.

“Makita naman ninyo sa behavior nila and the way they espouse their advocacy for a party, left ang talagang drift nila,” Duterte said.

“Ang problema they are supporting or they are really parang legal fronts ng Communist Party of the Philippines. … Dalawang ulo nito, miyembro ng Congress, sundalo, at hindi lang part-time. ‘Yan ang totoo,” he added.

“Huwag ninyong iboto ‘yan, kung iboto niyo ‘yang partylist ang bala, magkano ang isang bala ngayon? .. Isang putok is P30, huminto na kayo dyan kung ibigay natin sa barangay lahat nagsasayang kayo ng buhay, nagsasayang kayo ng pera,” the President added.

Duterte accused communist rebels of profiting from candidate endorsements, claiming that only the leaders benefit.

“They are earning billions. Kayong mga NPA na nasa gubat ngayon na gutom walang makain, may sakit, ang inyong liderato bilyon ang nakukuha nyan,” he said.

Candidates intending to campaign in “critical areas” should first obtain security advice from the police or military, according to Duterte.

In April 2020, President Rodrigo Duterte declared he would try to “finish all” CPP-NPA rebels within the remaining two years of his term.

Duterte also junked the peace talks with the CPP-NPA over its attacks against the Philippine military during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There are no more peace talks to talk about,” the President said in 2020. “I am not and will never be ready for any round of talks.”

According to the President, the NPAs have no words of honor and continue killing Philippines soldiers who are doing humanitarian missions.

“The NPA and the Communist Party of the Philippines have no respect either for their spoken words or in their deeds of killing soldiers who are on humanitarian missions,” he added.
