According to actress Vivian Velez, presidential contender and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is a “no-brainer” pick for followers of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Velez, the convenor of an alliance supporting Moreno and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio, also stated that the Manila mayor is the greatest choice among all presidential contenders.
Despite the President’s declaration that he prefers to remain “neutral” in terms of presidential candidate support, the so-called Duterte Diehard Supporters (DDS) organizations have also reached a “collective decision” to back Moreno, according to Velez.
“As we are branded to be a DDS, which is a Duterte Diehard Supporters, it is the collective decision of each group to push for the Isko-Sara [tandem],” Velez said, partly in Filipino, during the launch of ‘Isang Pilipinas’ at the Club Filipino in San Juan City.
“Although he (Duterte) is neutral, we went through the process of elimination. He is definitely not endorsing BBM or Bongbong Marcos, so he is not supporting him. He is also not supporting Leni Robredo. As we go through that process of elimination, it is no-brainer for us to choose Isko because we think he is the best candidate for president,” Velez said.
Last month, President Rodrigo Duterte said he would not endorse any presidential candidate for the 2022 elections unless he saw a “compelling reason” in the following months.
Duterte Diehard Supporters (DDS) to support Isko Moreno
“Almost all of the candidates in one way or the other, communicated to me na nakipag usap, nanghingi ng suporta,” said Duterte on the eve of the three-month campaign period for national positions.
“I may in the end if I see that my advice, maybe endorsement, could help kung kailangan. But at this time, I am saying that I’m not supporting anybody,” he added.
Meanwhile, Moreno praised Duterte’s fans, noting that he needs all the help he can get.
Mayor Isko joked “DDS” now stands for “Domagoso Diehard Supporters.”
The Manila Mayor has been ranking third on most of the surveys conducted by different groups. Bongbong Marcos still leads, followed by Vice president Leni Robredo.
