President Rodrigo Duterte is thinking of becoming a teacher after his tenure as president ends on June 30, according to Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
“I really don’t know [what he really plans to do next]; he said he was going to teach… sa Davao,” Medialdea said in an interview during the Duterte Legacy event.
“Patapos na nga siya [mag-empake]. Two, three months ago nagpapadala na siya ng gamit niya. Mga personal things inuna na niya. Karamihan, [doon sa] Davao lahat siyempre; doon ‘yun pupunta,” he added.

Similarly, Medialdea stated that the President had not received an official offer to serve as an anti-drug czar in incoming President Bongbong Marcos’ administration.
“Hindi ko alam ‘yan [na inoffer]. Alam ko may pahiwatig, pero wala pa akong alam whether he will accept it or not,” Medialdea said.
(I don’t know if an offer was made. I know there were feelers, but I do not know if he will accept it or not.)
Duterte considers being a teacher in Davao after term ends
“Hindi pa naman official, dyaryo-dyaryo lang naman lahat,” he added.

According to Medialdea, the Duterte administration transition team has met with Marcos’ camp once since Marcos was declared the winner of the 2022 presidential election.
“Nagmi-meeting na kami nu’ng after the proclamation of the incoming President. We’ve met once. With Vic [Rodriguez],” Medialdea said, referring to his successor.

“We just talked about the venue of the inauguration [on June 30] because there are transition teams for each department. As for me, we’re in charge of the venue,” he added.
According to Medialdea, the Duterte administration’s final cabinet meeting is expected to take place on Monday, May 30.
