Drunk CAFGU member kills woman in Iloilo

A drunk Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) member shot and killed a 24-year-old woman and injured a man, Wednesday night in Maasin, Iloilo.

The victims were identified as Regine Esperidion and 28-year-old Dexter John Cordero.

The shooting happened at 10 pm in Sitio Sambag, Barangay Dagami.

According to police, the victim Esperidion and the CAFGU suspect had a confrontation, which led to the shooting.

“Nagpatunga ining si Cordero rason nga naluthangan sa diin naigo siya sa paa apang naglapos sa dughan sang biktima nga babaye,” said P/Maj. Fernand Limbungan, chief of Maasin Municipal Police Station.

(Cordero tried to break the fight and so he was shot at his foot. But the bullet went through and hit the woman in the chest.)

Esperidion died instantly, while Cordero was rushed to the hospital.

“Yung motibo is drunkenness lang talaga. Lasing na lasing lang itong suspek,” said Limbungan.

(The motive of the crime is just drunkenness. The suspect was so intoxicated.)

It appears that the suspect’s brother was close to the victim.

The CAFGU member immediately fled, but eventually surrendered to the authorities the next morning.

Police recovered 38 caliber gun the suspect used in the crime. The suspect faces homicide and frustrated homicide charges.

P6.8 million worth of shabu seized in Makati

Up to P6.8 million worth of shabu was recovered by anti-drug unit operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) in Makati in a buy-bust operation yesterday afternoon that resulted in the arrest of four drug suspects.

The arrested were identified as Agatha Caray, alias Ate, 45; Mary Grace Caray, 41; Abegail Calvez, 37 and Jovy Linares, 37, all living on H. Santos Street, Brgy. Tejeros, Makati City.

According to the MPD report, the operation was conducted around 2 pm Wednesday at the home suspects in Makati City. It was learned that the police asset of the Drug Enforcement Team of Ermita Police Station 5 first interacted with suspect alias Ate to set a drug sale at their place in Makati City.

After being paid, the suspects were not able to escape when police raided their home.

Police seized a partially open package wrapped in brown packaging that contained approximately one kilogram of suspected shabu worth P6.8 million.
