Drivers with no traffic violations can renew licenses for 10 years

Drivers with no traffic violations can now renew their licenses valid for 10 years.

This is after Senator Grace Poe extended the validity of driver’s licenses from 5 years to 10 years for those with no traffic violations under Republic Act (RA) 10930.

“Good news! Ang panukalang batas na ating isinulong sa Senado ay ipapatupad na simula ngayong araw!” said Poe.

(The bill we put forward in the Senate will be implemented starting today!)

“Kung wala kang traffic violation, maari ka nang makapag-renew ng 10-year Driver’s License sa LTO,” she added

(If you do not have any traffic violation, you can now apply for a 10-year driver’s license upon renewal at LTO.)

However, Land Transportation Office (LTO) clarified that all drivers, with violations or none, must take a Comprehensive Driver’s Education (CDE) seminar before renewal.

“Ang lahat ng magrerenew ay kailangang dumaan sa Comprehensive Driver’s Education (CDE) upang matanggap nila ang kanilang CDE Certificate,” said LTO in a recent advisory.

The Republic Act (RA) 10930 will be first implemented by the Central Office-Licensing Section and the Quezon City Licensing Center (QCLC) starting Oct. 28.

Other cities in Metro Manila will implement it starting November 3. Implementation outside NCR will be announced later.

Meanwhile, the LTO also said that the validity of all Student Permits, Driver’s Licenses, and Conductor’s Licenses that will expire this month will be extended until Dec. 31 “in consideration of the existing Quarantine Restrictions in the country.”

Last year, LTO opened its Land Transportation Management System portal, enabling motorists to apply for driver’s licenses and student driver’s permits online.

Applicants may visit portal.lto.gov.ph and choose the transaction they need, upload documents required, and pay fees online.

The agency is looking into accrediting courier services to deliver driver’s licenses and vehicle license plates to those who will avail of the online services.
