DOH seeks understanding on viral vaccination video

The Department of Health sought understanding regarding the viral vaccination video in which the nurse failed to administer a vaccine, even though it had been injected into the vaccinee’s arm.

“Let’s not crucify our health workers. Nagkakamali po tayo lahat. Ang importante po we were able to rectify, nabigyan po ulit ng bakuna ‘yong dapat mabigyan ng bakuna,” said Health Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire.

During the weekend, the viral vaccination video spread where a health care volunteer was seen injecting a syringe into a woman’s arm, but it was noticed that the vaccine was not given.

On Saturday, the woman went to their office to show the viral vaccination video, and she was vaccinated again.

Binay said the frontliner was not aware that the vaccine had not been injected.

“Tao lang ang ating frontliners. Napapagod sila. Nagkakamali. Ang mahalaga, naayos agad ang pagkakamali. Humingi sya ng patawad at siya naman ay pinatawad… Mahigit isang taon nang nagtatrabaho ang ating frontliners at sa totoo lang napakahirap kumuha ng vaccinators ngayon,” said the mayor.

On Tuesday, many of those vaccinated at the Makati Coliseum, the largest vaccination site in Makati, took a video of themselves or videotaped while being vaccinated to make sure they were vaccinated.

About 1,300 people are vaccinated at the Makati Coliseum every day, but there are only 10 vaccinators. That means more than 100 people are vaccinated by vaccinators there every day.

The Makati Health Department admitted that they are understaffed to operate all vaccination sites.

Not all medical health care workers can vaccinate.

“Ang puwedeng magbakuna, mga doctor, nurse, midwife at mga pharmacists na may lisensiya… kaya limitado lang [ang] puwede magbakuna,” said Dr. Roland Unson of Makati Health Department.

Makati targets to vaccinate 10,000 per day, but so far, they can only vaccinate 5,000 to 6,000.

According to Vergeire, the standard is that a vaccination team can vaccinate at least 100 individuals.

“Ang ideal po talaga for every vaccination team is 6. Anim dapat ang nagko-comprise doon sa team na ‘yan. Per vaccination team nakakapagbakuna at least 100,” said Vergeire.

“Let’s limit the time of our health workers to 8 hours para nakakapagpahinga din po at magkaroon ng less mistakes ang ating health care workers,” she added.
