ZAMBOANGA CITY – Dr Mario Arriola, the city veterinarian, has issued strong warnings to residents to refrain from eating dog meat. The warning comes after a rise in rabies cases across Mindanao.
Arriola’s warning came after he received a report of an incident on Monday where a number of residents from Shermal Subdivision, Barangay Cabatangan were found to have consumed dog meat and then tested positive for rabies.

The head of the dog was submitted for testing which later confirmed that it was the source of the rabies cases.
In all, five adults and two children had consumed the meat and were summonsed by Arriola to seek treatment on the matter.
It was later discovered that the dog had bitten four other animals, two of which had later died.
