DOE will investigate gas stations that are overcharging

In Metro Manila, gasoline costs P60 to P83 per liter while diesel costs P52 to P65.

But in other provinces, the price of a liter of gasoline will soon be P100 and P80 for diesel.

In Boracay, the price of gasoline is over P97 while diesel is P80.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has encouraged consumers to report high prices to them, which are beyond the price range in Metro Manila.

“We will not allow na may panloloko. If you think na mataas, anything na mataas, we will check. If it goes beyong the range, may presumption ‘yan na dapat silang magpaliwanag,” said Energy Undersecretary Gerardo Erguiza.

On Tuesday, oil prices rose again, the 9th consecutive week of oil price hike.

The DOE ensured that there was an adequate supply of oil even after the war in Ukraine subsided because the Philippine supply came from the Middle East and the Asia Pacific.

However, the government is not able to stop the price spike, so it is also pushing for the removal of the excise tax by other consumers and militant groups.

“It’s what we think is right and it will benefit the Filipino, nagkataon lang na ‘yon din ang gusto ng ibang grupo,” the DOE official said.

According to Malacañang, President Rodrigo Duterte has already approved P2.5 billion in fuel card assistance to drivers and delivery riders.

But it is said that the aid will be released to the beneficiaries in a few weeks.

“We call on Congress to review the Oil Deregulation Law, particularly provisions on unbundling the price and the inclusion of the minimum inventory requirement in the law as well as giving the government intervention powers, authority to intervene when there is a spike or prolonged increase,” said acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles.

The Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Fejodap) has demanded that the minimum fare be returned to P10 so that drivers can keep up.
