The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a medical doctor for selling overpriced donated thermal scanners in Quezon City.
NBI’s Special Action Unit caught the suspect Dr. Cedric John Sarmiento De Castro in one of its anti-profiteering operations. The doctor was also the alleged president of Lions Club in New Manila, Quezon City.
De Castro allegedly sells 150 thermal scanners for P9,500 each, or a total of P1.2 million, the NBI said Wednesday.
“The thermal scanners were further alleged to have been donated to him in his capacity as chapter president of Lions Club,” it added.
The suggested retail price for thermal scanners is P800 to P1,500, said the NBI.
The agents brought the doctor to the NBI main office in Manila for booking procedures yesterday. He will undergo inquest at the Quezon City prosecutor’s office today.

Doctor arrested for selling overpriced donated thermal scanners
NBI seized thousands of thermal scanners and medical masks worth more than P10 million during its operation last Friday.
Last week, authorities also arrested two friends for selling overpriced thermal scanners in Pasig City.
The two were arrested in an entrapment operation inside a prominent fast food store in Barangay San Nicolas 5:10 pm on Monday, March 16.
Police recovered ten units of the thermal scanners and the P50,000 boodle money used in operation.
