DILG reminds 1,210 LGUs to implement firecracker ban

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) called on local governments to implement their respective ordinances that prohibit the use of dangerous fireworks this New Year 2024.

This is what DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos called for this Wednesday while reminding 1,210 local government units that previously had an ordinance banning the aforementioned.

“I continue to remind our LGUs, especially the ones with local ordinances already in place, na pangunahan ang pagtitiyak na malayo sa disgrasya ng paputok ngayong holiday season ang ating mga kababayan,” said Abalos.

Here is the number of LGUs with firecracker ordinances, based on DILG data:

DILG reminds 1,210 LGUs to implement firecracker ban

The department applauded the 35 LGUs that recently heeded the DILG’s call to pass similar ordinances to ensure a safe and injury-free welcome to 2024.

Abalos stressed this reminder after the firework accident struck 75 days before January 1st. Initially, the Department of Health (DOH) said that the need to amputate a hand or finger had reached six.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) first clarified that the following fireworks are illegal and dangerous: Five Star, Pla-Pla, Piccolo, Goodbye Philippines, Goodbye Bading, Giant Bawang, Watusi, Atomic Triangle, Judas’ Belt, Super Yolanda, Super Grandpa, and Coke-in-Can.
