The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said this Wednesday that the SIM registration deadline of April 26, 2023 still remains “for now”.
The DICT announced this following appeals from public telecommunications entities (PTEs) Globe Telecom Inc., Smart Communications, and DITO Telecommunity Corp., to extend SIM registration as its deadline approaches.
As of April 17, 2023, 43.47% of the 168 million mobile subscriber base nationwide have just registered their SIMs or subscriber identity modules.
This equates to 73,033,833 registered SIMS, with a large portion coming from Smart’s 36,115,938 registered subscribers.
Globe followed with 31,585,578, while DITO had 5,332,317 registered SIMs.
Despite the appeal of the PTEs, the DICT said that “at this point, there is no extension of SIM registration.”
The DICT reminded the public to register their SIM so that it would not be activated after the registration deadline of April 26, 2023.
“The DICT reiterates that the SIM Registration Act places primacy on the fundamental rights of Filipinos and is replete with safeguards to ensure the confidentiality and security of user data,” said the department.
“The DICT is one with PTEs in ensuring that Filipinos can enjoy safe and secure mobile phone services through the holistic implementation of the SIM Registration Act,” it added.
Under the law, the DICT can extend the registration by 120 days after the deadline if necessary.
DICT: SIM registration deadline until April 26 ‘for now’
DICT’s reminder, be careful when registering the SIM with the concerned Public Telecommunication Entities (PTEs):
Smart – smart.com.ph/simreg or simreg.smart.com.ph
Globe – new.globe.com.ph/simreg

Last month, DICT said it is considering extending the SIM card registration, which will end on April 26, 2023, for another 120 days.
According to DICT spokesperson, Usec. Anna Mae Lamentillo, DICT has the prerogative to grant a 120-day extension, though, and they still want to maximize the deadline.
The SIM Card Registration Act or Republic Act 11934 was the first law signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
As of January 11, more than 17 million SIM cards in the country have been registered.
This represents 10.47% of the more than 169 million mobile cellular subscribers nationwide.
Name, birth date, gender, and mailing address are only a few personal details that users must provide in the SIM registration forms. They must also show a photo ID provided by the government.
