DICT, San Juan give online learning devices to public school students

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and San Juan local government distributed online learning devices to public school students in the city.

Mayor Francis Zamora said a total of 12,500 tablets, 1,000 laptops, and pocket WiFis were given students enrolled in kindergarten to high school, including SPED students.

All other schools distance learning,-” he added.

Zamora thanked the DICT for partnering with San Juan LGU in ensuring that the online learning needs of students are met despite the COVID-19 crisis.

He noted that the San Juan City government did not fund the purchase of the gadgets.

Kaya kami ay nagpapasalamat kay Secretary Honasan at DICT sapagkat ang pondo ay galing sa national government and were very thankful na napili nila ang San Juan bilang pilot city,” Zamora said.

DICT chief Gringo Honasan, meanwhile, explained the agency chose San Juan because it has plans and vision. He, however, said the DICT is also helping other provinces and cities nationwide.

“Actually, ginagawa namin ito sa buong bansa. Noong isang araw nandoon kami sa Zambales, last week nandoon kami sa Baguio. Ina-apply natin at sinusunod natin ‘yung plano ni Presidente para sa blended learning, harnessing the power of ICT and digital technology,” Honasan said.

“Coordinated tayo sa lahat ng department para mapatupad ito in the long term. Kahit na sino ang presidente, secretary, mayor, governor, tuloy-tuloy ito dahil long term,” he added.
