DepEd to investigate alleged verbal abuse of teacher in viral post

The Department of Education will take action on the viral post where a student complained about being allegedly verbally abused by a teacher in Camarines Norte.

“The school head was directed to submit an incident report… to the regional director within 72 hours from the occurrence of the incident,” said DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa.

It is said that the school’s division office also met with the child’s parents last Tuesday and assured them that any kind of abuse of children would not be tolerated.

“The teacher will be subjected to administrative proceedings following our rules. The Department of Education takes these incidents very seriously,” said Poa.

According to Poa, help has also been extended to the child.

“Psychological first aid was immediately given to the learner, by trained personnel from the school health section. Psychosocial status of the learner will be monitored,” he said.

In the viral Facebook post by Jeannie Vargas, she said that her Grade 5 niece was traumatized by the way her teacher treated her on the first day of class.

Vargas posted the nephew’s writing in a paper, where he recounted that his teacher called him “bobo (stupid)” and “hayop (animal).”

“Ikaw bruha ka, kanina ka pa nagsusulat, ikaw na lang ang kulang (You witch, you’ve been writing for so long. We have been waiting for you),” the teacher said to the child.

“Ma’am wait lang po at puro mali ang sulat ko po (Please wait Ma’am. My writing was wrong),” the student answered.

“E di dalian mo diyan, bobo, (Go faster, stupid)” the teacher replied to the child in a whisper.

Vargas was furious at what happened to her nephew.

“Hindi niyo po deserve ang lisensya na dapat sa ibang tao na mas may malasakit sa mga bata,” said Vargas.

(You don’t deserve the license that belongs to other people who care more about children.)

“Kawawa ang pamangkin ko ngayon, ayaw na pumasok sa sobrang takot sa teacher na ito,” she added.

(My nephew is poor now, he doesn’t want to enter because he is so afraid of this teacher.)
