Dela Rosa’s proposal on e-sabong not discussed in Senate

Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa’s committee report number 646 regarding online or e-sabong was no longer included in the discussions during the continuation of the hybrid session of the Senate.

In the Senate’s schedule, Dela Rosa’s sponsorship bill should be at the end of the agenda concerning the result of their investigation into the controversial disappearance of more than 30 sabungero or e-sabong gamblers.

Before 7 p.m., the Senate session was also adjourned.

Most of the bills discussed are local bills.

This includes the proposed amendment by Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go on House Bill No. 10242 and House Bill No. 8197.

Such measures aim to convert Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran, Bohol, into Gov. Celestino Gallares Multi-Specialty Medical Complex and the increased bed capacity of Dr. Serapio B. Montaner Jr. Memorial Hospital in Malabang, Lanao del Norte.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon proposed revoking the franchise of an electric cooperative instead of reducing its franchise area in Davao del Norte.

Drilon made such a suggestion amid an interpellation with Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto on House Bill No. 10554 or the bill to extend the Franchise Area of ​​Davao Light and Power Company or DLPC in Davao del Norte.

“Maybe it would be better to revoke the franchise of NORDECO to avoid legal complications that would arise with the existence of two franchises in the same franchise area,” said Drilon.

Si Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. pushed for the amendment of Senate Bill No. 2504 or National Music Competitions for Young Artists or the NAMCYA Act.

It aims to have a music competition as a National Youth Development Program in the field of music. According to Revilla, this is to strengthen NAMCYA further and develop the country’s musical heritage.

It was approved on the second reading in the Senate.

Early this month, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the end of e-sabong activities, noting the societal cost to Filipinos.

Before this, Duterte revealed that he had instructed Año to survey the social impact of online sabong through the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
