DBM: P6.8B available to replenish QRFs for Ulysses aftermath

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said Sunday the national government has some P6.8 billion funds ready for release to replenish the Quick Response Funds (QRF) of departments responding to typhoon Ulysses’ aftermath.

In a briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte, DBM Assitant Secretary Kim Robert de Leon said the following replenishment funds are being processed:

  • Department of Agriculture (DA) – P1.5 billion
  • Department of Education (DepEd) – P2.1 billion
  • Department of Health (DOH) – P600 million
  • Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – P1 billion
  • Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – P1.25 billion
  • Office of Civil Defense (OCD) – P250 million

“Rest assured that as soon as we receive requests from these agencies for replenishment of their QRF [quick response funds], we are quickly acting on it para matuloy ang pag-provide ng serbisyo sa ating kababayan sa sunod sunod na bagyo,” said de Leon.

Ulysses is the 21st weather disturbance and the eight in the past two months to hit the Philippines.

Typhoon Ulysses aftermath

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday the death toll from the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses has risen to 67.
NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal told reporters that 22 of the 67 deaths were from the Cagayan Valley Region, two from Central Luzon, 17 from Calabarzon, eight from Bicol Region, 10 from Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and eight from the National Capital Region (NCR).

Meanwhile, 12 people have been reported missing, eight of which are from the Bicol Region, three from NCR, and one from Calabarzon, Timbal.

The official added 21 individuals were injured during the onslaught of Ulysses as of their latest count: nine from Calabarzon, eight from Bicol Region, three from Central Luzon, and one from CAR.

Meanwhile, Ulysses’ damage to agriculture is recorded at P1.19 billion, while infrastructure damage amounts to P469.7 million.

The typhoon also damaged 25,852 houses, authorities said.

President Rodrigo Duterte encouraged Filipinos on Saturday, saying, “Kaya natin ito, ilang pahirap na ng panahon… Babangon din tayo, mahirap pero alam mo naman ang Pilipino, alam niyang tumindig uli,” he added.
