COVID cases in Calabarzon increasing

The increase in COVID-19 cases is already being felt in some hospitals in Calabarzon.

At the Batangas Medical Center, the 160 beds reserved for COVID-19 patients are 80 to 90 percent occupied, according to hospital official Dr. Jade Jaview.

“Ang sitwasyon namin dito kagaya ng the rest sa Pilipinas, steadily increasing o dumadami ang kaso namin,” said Dr. Jade Javier, chair of infection prevention and control committee of the hospital.

“From the past 2 weeks, we see a steady rise of the cases ng COVID,” dagdag niya sa panayam sa TeleRadyo Martes.

It is a combination of suspected, probable, and confirmed cases.

Javier said that 20 percent or a total of 50 hospital personnel tested positive for COVID-19, while others were quarantined due to close contact.

The hospital’s operation was not affected. But they advised those wishing to be admitted to contacting the hospital first before taking them there.

Quezon province is also experiencing an increase in the number of those who test positive for COVID-19 in some hospitals.

At the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City, there are 45 COVID-19 patients in their hospital, according to their medical director Dr. Rolando Padre.

Many more are in the holding area or temporary facilities awaiting the swab test result.

Based on hospital data, 70 to 75 percent of the hospital’s COVID-19 patients have not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19.

So far, he said, even though there are three nurses and three doctors who are positive for COVID-19, they are able to cope with the situation even though there are still many patients.

But they are also in the process of hiring additional staff in preparation for the increase in COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, One Hospital Command also received higher calls compared to the delta surge.

According to Health Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega, a remarkable 57 percent are looking for isolation facilities, while 22 percent are looking for a hospital referral. This means that there are more mild cases compared to the delta surge that filled hospitals.
