COVID cases at Cagayan Valley Medical Center slightly decreased

The number of frontline workers at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City affected by COVID-19 is declining.

According to Dr. Glenn Matthew Baggao, medical center chief of CVMC, there are now only 81 staff currently being cared for by their hospital.

“[Nasa] 81 na lang po ang naiiwan at sila ay unti-unting nadi-discharge sa ating facility,” said Baggao.

Last week, up to 102 staff of their hospital were hit by COVID-19.

“Itong mga staff hindi galing lahat sa COVID ward, galing sa iba’t ibang offices kaya itong pagkaka-transmit nila ay maaaring ito ay galing sa community transmission,” he said.

In an interview with TeleRadyo Wednesday morning, Baggao said that the case of their staff is almost asymptomatic to mild, but they continue to be cared for by the hospital.

In addition, the number of positive patients admitted to their hospitals has also decreased.

“Medyo bumaba ang ating bilang ngayon kumpara noong last week na umabot tayo ng almost 300. Naabot natin yung 298 na pasyente noon pero sa araw na ito, as of 7 o’clock this morning po, ang ating census ngayon ay nasa 261. Bumaba po ang bilang ng COVID patients natin,” he said.

Of the 261 patients, 228 were confirmed COVID patients, while 33 were COVID suspects.

He also mentioned that their hospital has a bed capacity of 200, but they have two hotels rented as a step-down facility with 100 beds.

“Bale 300 na po ang aming capacity ngayon. Doon sa stepdown, dyan namin inililipat ang aming mga pasyente na nanggagaling sa loob ng CVMC, yung mga recovering patients na, yung about to be discharged,” he said.

He said this is to decongest the hospital and give place to non-COVID patients and severe and critical COVID patients.

Meanwhile, two towns in Cagayan province will be subjected to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to address the rising COVID-19 cases.

The Regional Inter-Agency Task Force approved the recommendation of the mayors of Baggao and Solana for the 14-day ECQ. Its implementation will begin on Tuesday, August 24, through September 6.
