COVID-19 data on NCR slightly improved

The National Capital Region (NCR) saw a slight decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases, according to the OCTA Research Group.

According to Department of Health (DOH) data, NCR recorded 8,376 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

According to OCTA, the last time there were less than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases in the region was since January 5 or your time when the trend of the number of new cases was just up.

There is a similarity in NCR to what is happening in South Africa, which after the rapid rise of cases, it has also dropped.

“Sa ngayon mukhang solid na ‘yong trend na may trajectory na na bumbaba. Unang nakita natin ‘yan sa City of Manila. Kasi siya ‘yong unang nagkaroon ng pataas at ngayon siya ‘yong nangungunang pababa rin,” said OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David.

“Kaya sinasabi natin baka magpe-peak siya (cases) kalagitnaan ng January,” added David.

After the COVID-19 case spiked in South Africa due to the omicron variant in December, they now record an average of 4,000 COVID-19 cases per day, far from the 20,000 average cases then.

The epidemic curve in the United Kingdom is also declining.

COVID-19 data on NCR slightly improved

OCTA’s monitoring of the data showed that the reproduction number of NCR had dropped to 1.76 from 6. As a result, the weekly growth rate also dropped by 10 percent.

But the Department of Health previously said that the data still needs to be observed for 1 to 2 weeks to be more sure if the case of COVID-19 is declining.

According to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, due to the high percentage of vaccinated people in NCR and consecutive days of lower COVID data, we see a plateau in the number of those who fall ill.

“Nagsisimula na ang ebidensiya na nagkakaroon na ng plateauing and hopefully a downward trajectory or plummeting of the cases. But siyempre, mahirap magsalita nang tapos dahil kailangan ng patuloy na pag-iingat,” said Duque.

While the data in the NCR is improving, cases are starting to rise in other regions of the country, according to OCTA.

OCTA thinks the situation in NCR will improve by February.
