COVID-19 cases in Laguna tripled this August— health officer

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Laguna tripled in August, according to the province’s local health office.

According to Laguna Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rene Bagamasbad, they have 7,800 active cases, from 2,400 to 2,500, in recent months.

The high number of cases still comes from the cities in Laguna.

Up to 80 percent of COVID-19 cases in Laguna have mild symptoms or no symptoms that are only home quarantine, so this is said to be the reason for the rapid increase in cases.

“‘Pag nagsama-sama sa bahay nagkakahawahan, halos lahat isang household nagkakahawahan, ‘yon ang iniiwasan natin,” said Laguna provincial health officer Dr. Rene Bagamasbad.

The province is also preparing for the continuous increase of COVID-19 cases and the additional capacity of hospitals.

COVID-19 patients are also discharged in good condition and continue their treatment in isolation or quarantine facilities.

The 15 government hospitals in Laguna are also full of non-COVID-19 and COVID-19 patients.

There are also patients in the tents outside the hospital.

The regional isolation facility in Calamba City is also said to be overflowing with patients.

Laguna is also speeding up contact tracing and testing to isolate the positives immediately.

The Department of Health (DOH) has seen a community transmission of Delta variant in Metro Manila and Calabarzon but noted the need for “further evidence.”

“Currently, we have seen and observed, especially in NCR and Region 4A, na talagang mukhang community transmission na ito. We are seeing clustering of cases in these two big regions,” it said.
