They first received information that the police were using a stolen vehicle. So they launched a joint operation with the PNP Highway Patrol Group, in which police were caught driving a silver AUV.

The HPG database found that the vehicle was first reported missing in Scout Borromeo, Barangay South Triangle Quezon City, in 2012. Apart from the theft of the car, it also had a false license plate.

The relevant documents were asked to the police as proof that he bought the vehicle from someone else, but he did not show anything.

During President Duterte’s weekly Talk to the People on Monday night, DILG Sec. Eduardo Año noted that from the 131,699 crime index in the country, it became 34,552 in 2021.

Año said this is also a result of the Duterte administration’s efficient programs against all forms of crime.

The secretary referred to the crime index as lawbreaking offenses considered ‘serious in nature’ such as murder, homicide, rape, robbery, carnapping, physical injuries, and eight other particular complex crimes.

The DILG chief said compared to 374,277 crime incidents in 2020, the number dropped to 360,573 in 2021, or a 3.66% decrease.

When it comes to peace and order, there has also been a significant decrease in index crimes and non-index crimes from 377,766 incidents in 2016 to 211,237 in 2021.

Año stressed that this means that the public feels the improvement of the peace and order situation now, as they have become more confident in the government’s ability to protect them against lawless elements.
