Controlling inflation most important issue to 63% of Pinoys — Pulse Asia

Controlling inflation is the only national concern that is “urgent” for most Filipinos, according to Pulse Asia — the price of goods in the Philippines is now the fastest in Southeast Asia.

This is what the survey firm shared this Tuesday in their just released June 2023 Ulat ng Bayan survey regarding the “urgent national concerns” and performance rating of the government of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“For 63% of the country’s adult population, controlling the increase in the prices of basic commodities is an issue that the national administration must address immediately,” Pulse Asia said in a statement to reporters.

“Second on the list is increasing workers’ pay (44%) while creating more jobs as well as reducing poverty are considered urgent by almost a third of Filipino adults (31% and 30%, respectively).”

It is little or almost no change compared to the data in June 2023, especially when it comes to the issue of inflation and raising workers’ wages.

“Majority levels of concern regarding the need to control inflation are recorded in all
geographic areas and socio-economic classes (56% to 71% and 62% to 67%, respectively),” added Pulse Asia.

“The only other majority urgent national concern in these same subgroupings is increasing workers’ pay (51% in Metro Manila).”

Despite this, Filipinos approve of addressing 10 of the 13 issues mentioned if the majority approval ratings will be looked at in June 2023.

“Filipino adults are most appreciative of the administration’s work in the areas of protecting the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (76%) and responding to the needs of calamity-hit areas (73%),” Pulse Asia said.

“The lowest majority approval figures of the national administration are on the issues of enforcing the rule of law (56%), creating more jobs (53%), and increasing workers’ pay (52%). Meanwhile, approval is the plurality sentiment toward the administration’s efforts to reduce poverty (43%).”

The approval and indecision scores are almost the same when it comes to the government’s anti-corruption initiatives (44% versus 39%).

The percentage of those who disapprove (37%) and cannot decide (32%) are almost equal if the government has performed well in controlling inflation.
