Comelec: Voters not allowed to wear campaign shirts in polling precincts

An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has warned voters not to wear the campaign shirts of their candidates in polling precincts on election day on May 9.

Commissioner George Garcia reminded that wearing clothes with the faces and names of the candidates is still part of the campaign.

“Tandaan po natin, bawal na po ang pangangampanya sa Mayo 9,” said Garcia.

The Comelec does not prohibit voters from wearing clothes that are the campaign color of their candidate.

“Di po tayo magdidikta at hindi natin ipo-prohibit ang isang botante na nakasuot ng kulay ng isang kandidato… pero iwasan po natin magsuot ng mga damit na merong mukha ng kandidato,” said Garcia.

He also said it is strictly forbidden to bring campaign paraphernalia to polling precincts, such as face masks, ballers, fans, calendars, etc.

“Kapag po kayo nagsuot ng face mask na may mukha ng kandidato, baller o damit na may mukha ng kandidato, ‘yan po ay siguradong sigurado ako io-object ng mismong watcher sa loob ng polling precinct,” the official said.

As in previous elections, the distribution of sample ballots on election day by candidates’ supporters is also prohibited.

Comelec distributes all VCMs, ballots for May 9 election

Comelec announced on Thursday that all vote-counting machines (VCMs) and official ballots for the May 9 elections had been distributed throughout the country.

Apart from the VCMs and ballots, Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino stated in a press conference that the dispatch of ballot boxes, Broadband Global Area Network, and Consolidated Canvassing System (CSS) kits had been completed as of May 5.

Commissioner Marlon Casquejo further stated that the final testing and sealing of VCMs has been completed in 70,924 clustered precincts, or 67 percent of the over 106,000 clustered precincts nationally.

Comelec is carrying out the final testing and sealing of the VCMs from May 2 to 7.

He also mentioned that 355 VCMs and 44 SD cards were malfunctioning and needed to be replaced.

“As compared to 2019, masyadong mababa ito because in 2019, on the first day of the FTS, nagkaron tayo agad ng 500 defective VCMs. so maybe because of na-repair natin, na-refurbish natin medyo bumaba talaga,” Casquejo said.
