Comelec launches iRehistro for online voters’ registration

Commission on Elections (Comelec) launched iRehistro for online voters’ registration to encourage more applicants to register and vote for the May 2022 national and local elections.

However, Comelec reminded applicants that they still need to personally appear at the nearest Comelec office for the biometrics (photograph, fingerprints, and signature) data capture.

“Accomplishing the online form does not automatically make you a registered voter,” the Comelec said in an announcement on its website.

“You still have to personally appear before your local Comelec office together with the printed online application forms (3 copies) for QR scanning and biometrics capture to complete the filing process,” it added.

The Comelec said the online voters’ registration only attempts to facilitate a faster accomplishment of the application form.

“It does not automatically mean approval of your application,” it said.

“The Election Registration Board (ERB) still has to approve your application on the scheduled date for the next ERB hearing,” it added.

Voter applicants would need to select the type of application they will be filing, such as registration, transfer of registration record, reactivation of registration record, change of name due to marriage or court order/correction of entries in the voters’ registration record, and inclusion of records in the book of voters/reinstatement of the name in the list of voters.

They would also need to provide their personal information, citizenship details, and residency data.

Applicants are also given the option to set an appointment with their local Comelec offices.

Voter registration for May 2022 elections resumed last September 1 except in areas under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or Modified ECQ.

The poll body said voter registration would automatically resume in areas under ECQ or MECQ.

Registration applications may be submitted from Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Office of the Election Officer.

An applicant is qualified to register if he or she is at least 18 years of age on or before Election Day, or on May 9, 2022; a resident in the Philippines for at least 1 year; and resides in the place where he or she intends to vote for at least 6 months on or before Election Day.
