The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has approved the nomination of former poll body commissioner Rowena Guanzon to represent the Community of Family, Patients, and Persons with Disabilities (P3PWD) party-list.

“Upon majority vote, the Commission on Elections, in its regular en banc meeting today, June 15, 2022, approved the recommendation of the Law Department on the June 14, 2022 submission of Komunidad ng Pamilya, Pasyente at Persons with Disabilities (P3PWD) Party List,” Comelec acting spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said in a statement.

Rowena Guanzon’s sitting as representative comes after the original set of group nominees Grace S. Yeneza, Ira Paulo A. Pozon, Marianne Heidi Cruz Fullon, Peter Jonas R. David, and Lily Grace A withdrew. Tiangco.

It also gave the right course to the new list of nominees, including Guanzon, Rosalie J. Garcia, Cherrie B. Belmonte-Lim, Donnabel C. Tenorio, and Rodolfo B. Villar Jr.

“We shall await for the Comelec Secretary’s official release of the signed en banc resolution on the matter,” added Laudiangco.

On the other hand, he said the petition for registration of P3PWD was granted by the Second Division, which was then comprised of Commissioners Socorro B. Inting and Antonio T. Kho, Jr.

“Dating Commissioner Ma. Rowena Amelia V. Guanzon ay hindi lumahok sa pagdinig at pagbibigay ng P3PWD’s Petition for Registration as a Party-List Organization,” Laudiangco said.

When asked if Guanzon could sit as the P3PWD representative, he said, “Yes.”

On Tuesday, the group filed documents that included the resignation of the nominees and the admission of new nominees to the poll body.

The party-list group won the seat in the last election held on May 9.

It will be recalled that Guanzon retired from the Comelec on February 2.

Guanzon served as mayor of Cadiz City in Negros Occidentales until 1992 and as chief of staff to late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, whom she still regards as a role model.

Rowena Guanzon ruled over the disqualification complaints filed against presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos that were raffled to the COMELEC First division during the 2022 Philippine presidential election. Guanzon publicly identified fellow commissioner Aimee Ferolino as “the one postponing the verdict in favor of Marcos” just days before leaving the office.
