Colegio de San Lorenzo in QC closes permanently

While some schools have started to open classes this Monday, Colegio de San Lorenzo management in Quezon City announced that they will be closing their school permanently due to financial issues resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and low number of students enrolled this school year.

“With a very heavy heart, we would like to inform you that due to the financial instability and lack of financial viability brought about by the ongoing pandemic and exacerbated by consistent low enrollment turnout over the past years, the Board of Trustees has come to the painful and difficult decision to permanently close our educational institution, Colegio De San Lorenzo,” according to the school’s statement posted on their Facebook page.

According to the statement, they will fully refund the money paid by those who enrolled this school year 2022-2023.

It is said that they will also help the students transfer to another school and release their records and credentials immediately.

“We are also coordinating with a university of the same caliber for the possibility of transferring students who are willing to continue their education therein,” according to a statement signed by the president of the Board of Trustees, Mary Claire Therese F. Balgan.

Colegio de San Lorenzo in QC closes permanently

The Colegio de San Lorenzo, located on Congressional Avenue, has been operating for three decades, according to a report by Allan Gatus on Dobol B TV this Tuesday.

This past month, Kalayaan College in Quezon City announced that it would stop its operation after 22 years due to continuous losses due to few students and the effects of the pandemic.

The 107-year-old College of the Holy Spirit in Mendiola in Manila also closed this year due to financial issues and the impact of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) is said to be ready to help the students affected by the closure of Colegio de San Lorenzo to find a school to move to.

In an interview with Unang Balita this Tuesday, DepEd spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa that the management of Colegio de San Lorenzo did not notify them of the planned closure.
