Closure of PGH ER to new patients likely to last 1 week

It is possible that new patients will not be admitted to the emergency room of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) for a week, according to its spokesperson.

PGH Spokesperson Dr. Jonas Del Rosario explained that they need to meet the needs of patients because the occupancy rate set by the hospital is full.

On the other hand, Del Rosario clarified that if the situation of a patient coming to the emergency room is critical or life and death, they are ready to accept and treat it.

“The advisory is for more patients who are not that severely o critically ill na minsan po magwo-walk in sa PGH. Kasi po ang talagang gusto namin i-coordinate ang pag-transfer lalo na po kung galing sa ibang ospital. Kasi po doon kami nadadale talaga, ang dami pong walk-ins na ang iba po doon ay hindi naman talaga sana pumunta na sa ER at nahahati pa po tuloy ‘yung aming resources,” said Del Rosario.

As many as 325 were admitted to their COVID-19 ward, most of whom were severe cases requiring high-flow oxygen and a ventilator.

But according to Del Rosario, it is difficult to transfer a patient because other hospitals have patients who refuse to transfer apart from full.

PGH, a state-run hospital, is a COVID-19 referral facility.
