British man allegedly involved in child abuse, making child porn arrested

After more than 10 years of hiding in the Philippines, the authorities in Taytay, Rizal, have arrested a British national who allegedly has more charges of child abuse and child pornography in their country.

In a report by John Consulta on GMA News “24 Oras” this Wednesday, the suspect was identified as Peter Joseph Wheeler, who was arrested by operatives of the Bureau of Immigration Fugitive Search Unit.

Wheeler was allegedly convicted in 2009 for making, possessing, and distributing indecent photographs of children.

He also has records of sexual offenses against several minors in England.

According to Bureau of Immigration Fugitive Search Unit Chief Rendel Sy, Wheeler entered the country in 2012.

“May kasama siyang menor de edad, sabi ay anak niya, pina-interview natin ito sa DSWD [Department of Social Welfare and Development] para makita kung may signs of abuse, at maging sa neighborhood niya nagpa-check din tayo baka maaaring may nabiktima rin siya doon,” said Sy.

BI has started deportation procedures against Wheeler.

“Kahit meron siyang permanent resident visa, ito po ay cancelled. Once implemented po ang deportation, hindi na siya makakabalik sa pilipinas because of his blacklisting,” said BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval.

(Even though he has a permanent resident visa, it was canceled. Once the deportation is implemented, he will not be able to return to the Philippines because of his blacklisting.)

The Briton suspect is detained at Camp Bagong Diwa, which has yet to be announced.

Attempts by foreign sex offenders to enter the country continued as the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported that its airport personnel barred from entering the country last week, two Americans previously convicted of sexually molesting minors in the US.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco, the BI frontline officers identified the two passengers as Mark David Scanlon and Richard Stuart Patterson, who arrived via separate flights at the international airports in Cebu and Manila.
