British and Australian tourists fall prey to thieves in Manila

Two foreigners, a British man and an Australian, fell prey to thieves in Ermita, Manila region in two separate instances this past week.

24-year-old Justin Davare, from Australia, told police he was walking along Adriatico near Remedios Street in Malate at 3am when two ‘riding-in-tandem’ motorcycle riders held him up.

The riders took his shoulder bag containing his laptop, camera and cell-phone. Mr Davare said the men sped off in an unknown direction.

The second foreigner to file a complaint was 60-year-old Alan David Knowles, from Britain.

Mr Knowles said he lost his wallet to pickpockets while is was walking around  Robinson’s Place on Adriatico Street.

He said his wallet contained 20,000 pesos, along with several bank cards as well as some important documents.

Police say numerous incidents such as these have been prevalent in this area of Malate for some time now.
