Boracay requires negative RT-PCR test results for tourists

Tourists going on vacation to Boracay will be required to present a negative RT-PCR test result again.

According to the order issued on Wednesday by Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores, it is necessary to show a negative RT-PCR test result again, which took 72 hours before the tourist entered the island.

The policy is effective from Sunday, January 9th.

A curfew will also be imposed in Boracay from 10 pm to 4 am.

The restriction was implemented in the popular tourist destination after COVID-19 cases rose again in the Philippines, believed to be due to the more contagious omicron variant.

In November, the RT-PCR test was removed as a requirement for fully vaccinated tourists entering Boracay.

Data showed that 32,452 tourists visited Boracay in Malay town, Aklan province, from October 1-31, 2021.

According to data from the city health department, Cebu City recorded 22 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total to 43 active cases. As of January 1, there were only nine active cases in the city.

The city has also submitted a swab sample of some balikbayans to the Philippine Genome Center to see if they have an omicron variant.
