Bongbong Marcos congratulates ‘Magic 12 senators’

Presumptive President Bongbong Marcos, Jr. congratulated the 12 winning senators in this 2022 election.

“Mabuhay ang ating mga bagong mambabatas sa Senado! (Long live our new legislators in the Senate!)” Marcos posted on his social media accounts.

“Higit kailanman, kinakailangan ng ating bansa ang inyong pagseserbisyo at karunungan para sa ating patuloy na pagbangon at pag-unlad. Congratulations! (More than ever, our country needs your service and wisdom for our continued rise and development. Congratulations!)” he added.

The new senators were officially announced on Wednesday, May 18, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum Tent.

The new senators who will serve for the next six years are Robin Padilla (26,612,434 votes); Loren Legarda (24,264,969 votes); Raffy Tulfo (23,396,954 votes); Win Gatchalian (20,602,655 votes); Chiz Escudero (20,271,458 votes); Mark Villar (19,475,592 votes); Allan Peter Cayetano (19,295,314 votes); Migz Zubiri (18,734,336 votes); Joel Villanueva (18,486,034 votes); JV Ejercito (15,841,858 votes); Risa Hontiveros (15,420,807 votes) and the latter was Jinggoy Estrada (15,108,625 votes).

Malacañang also congratulated the 12 senators with acting spokesman Communications Secretary Martin Andanar confident that the people have hope in the election of new members of the Senate.

“It is now time to move forward after a divisive election campaign and begin the daunting task of speeding up our economic recovery affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Andanar explained.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday proclaimed all 12 victorious senators in Eleksyon 2022, comprising five returning members, four reelectionists, and three newcomers.

The Comelec named the senators-elect, who will all take office at noon on June 30, 2022, while sitting on the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Meanwhile, Senator-elect Robin Padilla hailed Filipino voters on Wednesday for returning a Muslim to the Senate.

In addition to the actor, the following senatoriables made the “Magic 12”:

  • Sherwin Gatchalian – 20,602,655 votes
  • Francis “Chiz” Escudero – 20,271,458 votes
  • Mark Villar – 19,475,592 votes
  • Alan Cayetano – 19,295,314 votes
  • Miguel Zubiri – 18,734,336 votes
  • Joel Villanueva – 18,486,034 votes
  • JV Ejercito – 15,841,858 votes
  • Senator Risa Hontiveros – 15,420,807 votes
  • Jinggoy Estrada – 15,108,625 votes

The election had a record turnout of 83.11 percent and the fewest occurrences of poll violence, only 16 incidents.
