Bongbong Marcos files candidacy for presidency in 2022

Former Sen. Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr., son of the ousted dictator, filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) with the Commission on Elections today.

Just Wednesday, Bongbong, son of Ferdinand Marcos Sr., formally announced his plan to run for the presidency on a Facebook live stream after leaving the Nacionalista Party and moving to the Federal Party of the Philippines.

On the other hand, Marcos admitted that he does not have a tandem for the position of vice president yet, which is a reason for him to weigh the options.

“I filed under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. As of now, no one has filed for vice president under PFP,” said Bongbong.

“I’ll be very candid with you, the reason why that is is that the original plan was for us to adopt [President Rodrigo Roa Duterte] for our vice presidential candidate.”

Duterte first announced his candidacy for vice president but abruptly withdrew this weekend after saying he would retire from politics.

Despite this, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go filed his COC as vice president.

“Pano ‘yon, Bongbong-Bong? Bong to the third power? Oh, baka pwede rin. We will see. Siguro nagulat din kayo dahil sa mga nangyari noong Sabado eh,” Bongbong Marcos said.

Although Marcos had talked to presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio about politics, they did not discuss any “specifics” regarding the election, so he could not say whether the ally’s son would be a partner.

Even though Duterte-Carpio has already filed a reelection bid for mayor of Davao City, she can still file a substitution to run for another position until November 15.

Sara is currently number one in the presidency in the September 2021 presidential survey of Pulse Asia.

Bongbong Marcos and PFP have not released their senatorial lineup.

“‘Yung sa Senado naman, we will be providing you with the list of our senatorial candidates in the very near future, within days from now,” he said.

“Kung mapupuno ‘yung 12 na punong slate, I cannot say for sure yes. At the very least, we will field, seven, eight, nine candidates. Baka mapuno pa nga ‘yung 12.”
