Senator bong go released statements to the media following his withdrawal from the presidential race, Tuesday, November 30.
According to Go, he was overwhelmed by his candidacy, emphasizing he was not ready. He said he prepared to run for vice-president but not as president.
“In span of hours or days, lilipat ka sa isang posisyon. Yung ibang kandidato pinaghandaan all throughout the years. Ako po hindi ko po napaghandaan,” he said.
He said it was not his ambition to become a president, adding it would be hard to campaign if his heart and family resisted his candidacy.
“Napakahirap pong mangampanya kung nag-reresist yung pamilya mo, yung puso mo,” he said.
“Marahil po ay hindi ko pa panahon. Panginoon lang po ang nakakaalam kung saan ka dadalhin ng tadhana,” Go said.
He said he and President Rodrigo duterte talked the other night about his decision. Go said the president understood him because he was “agonizing all throughout the days” after filing his candidacy.
Go said he does not want to be a burden to Duterte anymore since he is already old. He added they would support candidates who would continue the change that the Duterte administration started.
Bong Go says becoming president not his ambition
“It pong build, build, build, Malasakit Centers, and free education. At ang importante po yung mas magandang covid-19 response. Huwag nating sayangin yung magandang naumpisahan,” he said.
Go said Duterte has yet to decide the candidate they would support in the 2022 elections.
When asked how Duterte accepted his decision, Go said the president respected it.
“Nirerespeto niya po lalo na po kung pamilya na ang pinag-uusapan dito. Unang-unang tao nang makakaintindi lalo pag pamilya na ang nagreresist, si pangulong Duterte po ang unang makakaintindi,” he said.
“Mahal na mahal ko po si pangulong Duterte kaya willing po ako mag-sacrifice for the sake of unity of our supporters and filipinos also,” he added.
Bong Go still does not consider himself a politician.
“Until now sinasabi ko sa mga speeches ko. Do not consider me a politician, a senator. Gusto ko po mas maalala ako ng taong bayan as a public servant,” he added.
President Duterte has yet to comment on Bong Go's withdrawal of candidacy for president.
