BI to deport German fraudster

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said it is poised to deport a German national wanted by authorities in Berlin for a string of fraud cases.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the fugitive as Lindner Hans Dieter, 76, who is now in the Bureau’s custody following his arrest on Monday in Bgy. Parada, Valenzuela City.

Operatives from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) arrested the German on the strength of a warrant of deportation issued by the BI.

Morente said the warrant is pursuant to a summary deportation order issued against Dieter in December last year for being an undesirable alien.

“We will immediately send him out of the country, as it has already been proven that he is an undesirable alien due to his crimes. He has been placed in our blacklist and banned from re-entering the Philippines,” the BI Chief added.

A check of the BI’s records revealed that Dieter has already been overstaying in the Philippines, having arrived on November 2, 2016.

According to the German authorities, Dieter is subject of an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Heidelberg, Germany on October 20, 2020.

Dieter was reportedly convicted by the said court in November 2013 after being found guilty for banking and financial fraud, and delayed filing of insolvency and bankruptcy declaration.

He is now detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting deportation.

Eleazar: Exempt teachers from mandatory onsite work

Senatorial candidate Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar has appealed to the Department of Education (DepEd) and Civil Service Commission (CSC) to first exempt teachers from forcibly returning to the schools where they work.

First of all, DepEd’s directive on public school teachers to return to the school of work was required by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

“Kung ito ay para sa face-to-face classes ay suportado natin ito pero kung online class din naman at hindi maayos ang internet sa school, what’s the point of forcing them report to school? Sayang lang ang oras, dagdag gastos at sakit ng ulo pa ito sa ating mga guro,” he said.

According to Eleazar, if the government wants to send teachers back to schools, it must first solve the Philippines’ long-standing problem of internet connectivity.

In addition, he said, DepEd should consult with teachers, perhaps through a survey, to find out who wants to go back to school and who wants to keep the class online.
