BI takes custody of Jordanian-Israeli fugitive wanted for string of cases in UAE

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said it has arrested a Jordanian-Israeli national wanted for a string of criminal cases by authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the alien fugitive as 45-year-old Tarek Nihad Siam, who was apprehended last Wednesday, by operatives from the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) at the headquarters of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Ermita, Manila.

Morente said the BI took Siam under its legal custody after the NBI informed the Bureau about the alien’s arrest last January 26 for illegal gun possession and slight physical injuries.

“He will remain under the physical custody of the NBI pending resolution of the criminal cases against him by our local courts,” the BI chief said.

According to the Interpol’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Manila, Siam is wanted in Abu Dhabi for physical assault, indecent assault, and alcohol abuse.

A final judgment sentencing Siam to one-year imprisonment was already rendered by a court in the emirate, the NCB added.

A newspaper article published in May 2017 also alleged that Siam was also being sought by UK authorities in connection with the hijacking of two luxury yachts in Dubai that were used by human traffickers and gun runners.

The said yachts were originally managed by a company owned by Siam, and UK authorities were still trying to locate the boats which are believed to have been moved to the Philippines.

Siam reportedly intended to retire in the Philippines and has not left since he arrived in January 2020.

Man on bicycle killed in hit-and-run in Quezon City

CCTV footage showed a vehicle colliding with a teenager cycling in Barangay Sacred Heart, Quezon City, killing the victim.

In the CCTV footage, obtained on Monday by ABS-CBN News, it can be seen that the car which was then speeding hit the bicycle ridden by Mark Joseph Crisostomo with Scout Torillo on Friday night.

The 19-year-old victim was immediately rushed to East Avenue Medical Center but died a few hours later.

According to investigator Staff Sgt. Darwin Peralta, there is a possibility that the driver was drunk.

Crisostomo, who allegedly dreamed of becoming a soldier, was on his way home that night from training at Camp Aguinaldo.

Authorities continue to gather CCTV footage to determine the identity of the driver of the vehicle.
