BI ready to include France on red list

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced that it is ready to implement the inclusion of France on the country’s red list on December 10.

In a statement, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente shared that following the resolution from the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID), passengers coming from France are temporarily barred from entering the Philippines.

Also included in the ban are passengers who have been to France within 14 days preceding arrival in the country.

“As with the other countries included in the ban, Filipinos coming in may return via government or non-government initiated repatriation and bayanihan flights,” said Morente.

According to BI Port Operations Division Chief Atty. Carlos Capulong, the ban will take effect on Friday, until December 15, unless otherwise extended by the IATF-MEID.

Currently, the BI is implementing a travel ban from passengers coming from 14 other countries namely South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, and Italy.

Capulong likewise warned that airlines who board passengers coming from travel-restricted countries may face penalties for violating the Philippine Immigration Act.


LGUs with most vaccinated in nat’l vaccine drive honored

Recognition was given this Thursday to some local governments with the most vaccinated in the national COVID-19 vaccination days last week.

Calabarzon led in the number of vaccinated in the first three days of the massive vaccination drive in the regions. It injected a total of 1.1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses during that time.

Laguna was named the “best province” after injecting more than 271,000 doses in 3 days.

Cebu City was named the “best city” after injecting more than 103,000 doses in the same period.

Rodriguez in Rizal, Tanza in Cavite and Arayat in Pampanga were recognized as top municipalities.

General Santos City, Tawi-Tawi province, and the Bangsamoro region saw the most significant “improvement” in the average number of vaccinated people.

The government called on the public to support the second round of the national COVID-19 vaccination days on December 15 to 17, which targets vaccinating 7 million individuals.
